The Ongoing Surge in U.S. Crude Production is Highly Concentrated in Only a Few States –<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>U.S. crude production has surged by more than\u00c2\u00a050% since 2009, from about 1.8 billion barrels to 2.8 billion barrels annually. <\/span><\/p>\n

The geography underlying the oil produced in the U.S. each year\u00c2\u00a0is now\u00c2\u00a0roughly 1\u00c2\u00a0billion barrels from Texas; 700 million barrels combined\u00c2\u00a0from\u00c2\u00a0North Dakota, Alaska, and California; 375\u00c2\u00a0million barrels combined from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, and Wyoming; and 750 million barrels\u00c2\u00a0from all other states combined.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Crude<\/a><\/p>\n

So far, the\u00c2\u00a0growth in\u00c2\u00a0production is\u00c2\u00a0highly concentrated in only a handful of states<\/span>.\u00c2\u00a0North Dakota production has more than tripled; Texas and Oklahoma have roughly doubled\u00c2\u00a0production; New Mexico has added 50%; and Louisiana and Wyoming have seen only modest increases.\u00c2\u00a0Among the major producing states, only Alaska and California have not seen long-run declines in production reversed or ended. Oil\u00c2\u00a0production is off roughly 5% in California and 20% in Alaska in the short run, and off 20% and 50%,\u00c2\u00a0respectively, the past decade.<\/p>\n
