The number of problem banks resolved by the FDIC continues to diminish in 2014.<\/em>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0<\/em>The\u00c2\u00a0data on the U.S. banking system continues to improve. The number of failed institutions totaled only 24 in 2013 and is on pace to improve further in 2014. Although nearly\u00c2\u00a0500 banks have failed since 2008, the total\u00c2\u00a0remains well below the number of\u00c2\u00a0failures suffered in\u00c2\u00a0the cycle of the early 1990’s.<\/span><\/p>\n

The amount of problem assets at failed institutions is rapidly approaching zero as well after peaking at nearly $400 billion in 2008. Bank failures so far in 2014 are at very small institutions only.<\/p>\n
